Emotional Elephant Herd Mourns Dead Baby in Stunning Display of Grief
|Parveen Kaswan, a forest ranger in the Indian Forest Service, shared a touching video of elephants holding a funeral-like procession for a baby elephant last Friday.
The video quickly went viral, moving thousands of people. In the tweet, Parveen wrote, “This will move you!! Funeral procession of the weeping elephants carrying the dead body of the baby elephant. The family just doesn’t want to leave the baby.”
The video shows a heartbroken elephant emerging from the bushes, holding the body of the dead baby elephant with its trunk. Social media users were amazed and emotional, expressing their sympathy for the grieving elephants.
The adult elephant gently laid the baby elephant down and stood guard over it, waiting for more elephants to arrive. As they came, they walked in a line, resembling a funeral procession, and surrounded the baby elephant in a show of solidarity.
After a while, the first elephant lifted the baby again, with the other elephants following closely behind, showing their support and mourning together.
The Twitter post received over 5,000 retweets and more than 12,000 likes on the platform, capturing the attention of many who were moved by the elephants’ display of mourning.
Elephants have been seen grieving their deceased family members, showing emotions similar to humans. They often touch and stay close to the bodies, demonstrating a deep sense of loss.
