Briella Holmes, a three-year-old, passed away on July 27, 2026, four days after being discovered unresponsive in the Meadows of Boynton Beach.
Boynton Beach officers arrived at the location shortly after 11 a.m. on July 23 in response to a report of a child not breathing. The officers initiated life-saving efforts before Briella was taken by Boynton Beach Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition until her death.
Authorities confirmed that Briella and her sibling were at the babysitter’s home during the incident. The babysitter had left the house, leaving the children in the care of her partner.
While the children played on the lower level, the partner was upstairs, periodically checking on them and bringing snacks.
It was during one of these check-ins that the partner made a tragic discovery: Briella was found with her head stuck in a toy kitchen set. After removing her from the toy, the partner attempted to perform life-saving measures until emergency responders arrived.

In 2025, the recall of nearly 192,000 KidKraft ‘Farm to Table’ wooden kitchens occurred after a 23-month-old boy in Oregon died in 2023 due to his clothing getting caught on a hook on the back of the kitchen, creating a strangulation risk.
Backyard Kids, LLC from Plano, Texas, initiated the recall and provided replacement hooks for affected kitchens, which were designed to hold toy kitchen accessories.
As per coverage surrounding the significant recall, these kitchens were produced by KidKraft, Inc., retailing between $120 and $270, and were available for purchase through KidKraft’s website, Amazon, and Walmart starting in 2018. KidKraft filed for bankruptcy in May 2024.

The agency indicated that these items pose a significant risk, particularly to young children, according to reports on the agency’s concerns regarding recalled items listed on Marketplace. Approximately half of the CPSC’s online product removal requests in 2020 were linked to Facebook Marketplace.
By 2022, this proportion increased to about 75 percent. Meta stated that they have teams dedicated to enforcing commerce policies that prohibit the sale of recalled items, while also recognizing that individuals may unintentionally or knowingly attempt to sell such products on resale platforms.
