Details surrounding the final moments of the beloved star’s life are gradually emerging, though the exact events that transpired inside the South Carolina rental remain uncertain.

The inquiry into Hayden Panettiere’s unexpected passing is ongoing, and fresh revelations are helping to create a more complete, although still partial, understanding of what occurred in the residence where she was discovered unresponsive.

An autopsy has now been conducted, residents are recounting the ‘commotion’ they experienced on that day, and officials have disclosed a significant finding while questions linger regarding the cause of death for the 36-year-old actress.

As reported by Page Six, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office noted that a 911 call was made on August 16, 2026, around 1:51 p.m., concerning a cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders and EMS personnel arrived at the scene to find a woman in cardiac arrest. Despite their attempts at advanced cardiac life support, they were unable to revive her, and Panettiere was declared dead at 2:32 p.m.

The Coroner’s Office confirmed: ‘The deceased has been identified as Hayden [Lesley] Panettiere, 36, from California. She was found unresponsive inside the residence where she was temporarily staying.’

This information is particularly significant given the accounts from residents of the complex regarding Panettiere’s stay there.

Micah Lee, a neighbor, recounted to WYFF4 that he was at home that Sunday when he noticed unusual activity in the building. ‘It was yesterday afternoon, and there was just a lot of commotion in the hallway,’ Lee said. ‘The halls are pretty hollow, so sounds echo throughout.’

He continued, ‘I heard about someone collapsing. Then there were discussions of cardiac arrest. I can’t verify any of that; it’s just what I’ve heard.’

Lee’s account aligns with the Coroner’s Office confirming that the initial 911 call was related to a cardiac arrest, although the official cause of Panettiere’s death has yet to be announced.

Authorities have indicated through their preliminary investigation that there were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. Another resident from Judson Mill Lofts on Easley Bridge Road shared a similarly unsettling perspective on the events, expressing shock upon learning of Panettiere’s death.

The resident stated, ‘I was shocked,’ noting that they had never seen Panettiere prior to the news of her passing. They were uncertain about how long she had been on the property and whether she had left her apartment during her stay.

The neighbor mentioned that management reached out to residents to assure them that the incident was not deemed criminal, alleviating fears for their safety. ‘It’s still pretty jarring to realize that someone of her stature was here, and then this tragedy occurred,’ the resident added.

They recalled police being present at the property for several hours, from around noon until 8 p.m. that day. The sight of the coroner’s vehicle indicated that a death had occurred, but they did not learn until the following morning that it was Panettiere.

Another detail that stood out to the neighbor was observing two men ‘sitting outside the apartment with police’ during the emergency response. ‘They appeared to be in shock, silent, and had their heads down,’ the neighbor recounted.

Additionally, the resident believes the apartment was being used as a rental, which Page Six confirmed to be an Airbnb.

As investigators worked to reconstruct the events, another element from the scene drew attention. Page Six noted that 911 dispatch audio described the emergency as an apparent ‘overdose,’ and Narcan was reportedly discovered on a mattress at the location.

Narcan is utilized to counteract opioid overdoses, but it remains unclear whether it was administered to Panettiere.

Importantly, neither the dispatch characterization nor the presence of Narcan provides clarity on Panettiere’s official cause of death. Authorities have indicated that a determination is still pending further investigation and additional testing.
