Hayden Panettieres Boyfriend Allegedly Contacted Her Despite Court Order — Newly Revealed Messages Show What He Said

The final moments of Hayden Panettiere, the star of “Nashville,” in South Carolina have drawn renewed attention to her tumultuous relationship with Brian Hickerson. Recently uncovered court documents shed light on a distressing chapter of their history and what transpired following his arrest.

Inside a South Carolina Airbnb where Brian Hickerson, her on-and-off partner, was also staying, Hayden was discovered unresponsive. This incident marked the conclusion of a relationship that had faced years of legal challenges and painful accusations.

On August 16, Hayden and Brian were both present in the Greenville Airbnb when Brian’s brother, Zach Hickerson, entered the unit and found Hayden in a chair in the living room, as reported by TMZ.

Hayden and Brian Hickerson were photographed together in Los Angeles in January 2019. More than seven years later, multiple reports said the on-and-off couple flew from Los Angeles to South Carolina together on August 15, 2026.

Brian Was Sleeping When Hayden Was Discovered

At the time of the discovery, Brian was asleep in a different bedroom. Zach and Brian promptly dialed 911, leading first responders to arrive at the scene around 1:50 p.m.

When emergency personnel arrived, Hayden was in cardiac arrest. Despite their efforts to revive her, she was declared deceased at 2:32 p.m.

Witnesses Observed the Emergency Response

On August 15, Hayden and Brian had traveled from Los Angeles to South Carolina, staying at Judson Mill Lofts.

A local resident noted that Hayden did not seem to leave the apartment following her arrival. “I was stunned, like everyone else in Greenville, to learn she was here,” the neighbor remarked to Page Six.

The same resident observed two unidentified men speaking with police after the emergency response, describing them as appearing shocked and silent, with their heads down.

As per the resident’s account, police remained on the scene until approximately 8 p.m. “When I saw the coroner’s vehicle arrive, I realized there had been a death,” the neighbor recounted.

By the next morning, the neighbor learned who had passed away. “I woke up only to find out it was Hayden, which is still shocking to me,” the resident said.

The heartbreaking events in Greenville reignited interest in Hayden and Brian’s complex relationship, including a legal case that had escalated significantly in previous years.

Their Relationship Became Entangled in Legal Issues

On February 14, 2020, Brian was arrested in Wyoming after allegedly hitting Hayden in the face with a closed fist at an Airbnb, according to reports.

At the scene, officers found Brian intoxicated and locked out of the property. Hayden informed police that he had assaulted her in the bedroom, as outlined in the police report.

Her face was reportedly red and swollen, with officers noting a mark they believed could have been caused by Brian’s watch. This Wyoming arrest followed an earlier incident in California involving similar assault allegations against Hayden, which were later dropped when she chose not to testify.

Ultimately, Brian received a sentence of about a year in jail for the Wyoming incident. However, the judge suspended the sentence, mandating that he complete a year of probation instead.

This case also resulted in a court order prohibiting Brian from contacting Hayden, though subsequent court documents indicated that he may have reached out to her regardless.

Hayden’s Attorney Reported the Alleged Communications

A probable cause affidavit from the Wyoming case revealed that Hayden’s lawyer reported to authorities after Brian allegedly contacted her in violation of the court order.

The lawyer presented law enforcement with emails that included screenshots of text messages, records of missed calls, and short video clips. These materials, as stated in court documents accessed by TMZ, led police to suspect that Brian was using threatening language during the ongoing legal proceedings.

Investigators suspected that some of these communications aimed to intimidate Hayden into dropping the case. The documents contained several alleged messages, including one that conveyed a particularly menacing tone.

The Text Messages Highlighted Brian’s Alleged Threats

One of the alleged messages stated:

“Time to go to war I guess.”

Another message reportedly mentioned videos and their potential fate: “After Wyoming and LA disappears so do the videos.” Brian allegedly followed this up with a message about materials he claimed were being stored overseas.

“Even if I sit in a jail cell for ten years, all of the stuff that is vaulted overseas with my people will come out the second I step foot into prison. And all that does is hurt your name while simultaneously clearing my name. And at that point who actually cares?”

Brian Hickerson faced multiple arrests, serious allegations, and legal troubles throughout their turbulent relationship. During this outing, she was seen with him on January 31, 2019, in Los Angeles, California.

Other purported messages seemed to pressure Hayden for a response. One read, “Say something, Hayd, so I don’t get defensive and start firing off emails to people to get ready.”

Another said, “I thought his legal stuff would magically disappear… we gotta figure something out, buddy.”

Authorities pointed to messages they believed were intended to persuade Hayden to take an action that could impact the case. “It is very simple, it is a very simple fix, between me and you, you gotta make one phone call,” one message allegedly stated.

Another message reportedly read, “I don’t want to go to court, for you. I will be [expletive] fine in court, trust me, it’s for you.”

These communications formed part of the evidence in the case, with authorities interpreting them as attempts to coerce Hayden while legal proceedings were still in progress.

Hayden Later Discussed Forgiveness

Following the legal issues, the relationship did not simply fade away. In 2022, Hayden talked about re-establishing a connection with Brian, although she referred to him as merely a friend at that moment. Her remarks acknowledged the painful history while expressing her desire to address it differently.

“None of it is OK, and I want to ensure everyone knows that,” Hayden stated. “But I’m open to those willing to seek help and make amends. He has entered treatment and served his time. I’m striving to live in a spirit of forgiveness.”

Years after her comments, Hayden and Brian found themselves together once more in South Carolina.

In the months leading up to her death, Hayden Panettiere had been open about her life experiences, recovery journey, motherhood, and the obstacles she faced.

Born on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, Hayden began her career as a baby model at just eight months old and filmed her first commercial at the age of eleven.

The interview focused less on her achievements and more on the sacrifices entailed in her childhood. Hayden shared her feelings of being trapped between the demands of an adult career and the childhood experiences she longed for.

“I desperately wanted to fit in. That was my greatest desire,” she recalled, expressing a wish for friends her own age, schooling, and sports.

Hayden was already working as a child actor when she attended the Los Angeles premiere of "A Bug's Life," in which she voiced Dot. She later said growing up in the industry left her trying to find a place in both the adult world of acting and among children her own age.

She also reflected on the psychological toll of acting. Known for her ability to cry on cue as a child, she explained that the emotional depths she had to access became increasingly darker as she matured.

By adulthood, she found that transitioning in and out of emotionally charged roles became more challenging. Her experience on “Nashville” was particularly complex.

Hayden expressed how storylines involving strained family ties, postpartum depression, alcoholism, and drug addiction increasingly reflected her own struggles. “I lost track of where the character ended and where I began,” she described.

She Also Reflected on Motherhood and Healing

On May 26, Hayden attended a book signing and panel event at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles, according to reports.

During this discussion, she highlighted how her transparency about mental health had encouraged others to seek help after hearing her story.

For Hayden, these interactions influenced her vision regarding the legacy she wanted to leave behind. “I thought, this is worthwhile. I hope to leave the world in a better state than I found it,” she remarked.

In a July cover interview with a parenting publication, Hayden spoke openly about her role as a mother and the tough choices she made for her daughter, Kaya.

She recounted Kaya’s life-threatening birth, her battle with postpartum depression, and the decision for her daughter to primarily reside with her father, former boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

“I’ve prioritized her needs regardless of my feelings or experiences,” Hayden said, expressing hope that “one day she’ll understand my story and why I couldn’t always be with her.”

Hayden took time to reflect on her personal journey during the interview. “I’m a work in progress — as we all are. I tackle each day as it comes. I’m putting in the effort and doing my best.”

She concluded the interview with a message for other mothers facing difficult times: “You possess more strength than you realize. And you will be just fine.”
