Hayden Panettieres Final Hours: What She Did Before She Used to Be Found Unresponsive Miles from Home

On Saturday, Hayden Panettiere made her way from Los Angeles to South Carolina. Tragically, less than 24 hours later, she was found unresponsive in a rental home at the age of 36.

Newly revealed witness statements, emergency dispatch audio, and images shed light on Hayden Panettiere’s last moments in Greenville, raising one significant question: What brought her to that location?

Hayden starred as Juliette Barnes on "Nashville," the television series that ran for six seasons. Her role on the country music drama became one of her best-known television performances.

On that Saturday, Hayden traveled with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, as reported by TMZ.

During her stay, she rented an apartment at Judson Mill Lofts in Greenville. Page Six verified that this unit was operating as an Airbnb. A resident from the complex mentioned that they had not seen Hayden leave since her arrival.

Hayden and Brian Hickerson were photographed together in Los Angeles in January 2019. More than seven years later, multiple reports said the on-and-off couple flew from Los Angeles to South Carolina together on August 15, 2026.

“I was shocked to learn she was here, just like everyone else in Greenville,” the neighbor shared with the media.

On Sunday at 1:51 p.m., a friend contacted 911 stating that Hayden was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

Emergency personnel quickly arrived and attempted to revive her, providing chest compressions and advanced cardiac life support.

A photo released by TMZ on X showed the presence of emergency vehicles, including a fire truck and ambulances outside the apartment complex. Another image reportedly displayed a vehicle from the Greenville County coroner parked outside.

A different resident recalled seeing police at the property around noon.

Dispatch audio offered additional insights into how emergency teams were informed as they arrived. The patient was labeled as an ‘unidentified female’ experiencing ‘cardiac arrest.’

Shortly after, the audio indicated that CPR was being administered for an ‘overdose,’ with medics dispatched to assist someone suspected of overdosing.

These details reflect what was communicated during the emergency response, although an overdose had not yet been confirmed as the cause of Hayden’s death according to the reports.

Despite the resuscitation efforts, Hayden Panettiere was declared dead at 2:32 p.m. Authorities indicated that there were no immediate signs of foul play, and the circumstances surrounding her death did not appear suspicious.

The coroner from Greenville County was expected to determine the official cause and manner of her death. A neighbor witnessed the ongoing emergency response from outside.

This neighbor also observed two unidentified men conversing with police, noting that they appeared distraught. ‘They seemed in shock, silent, and had their heads bowed,’ the neighbor commented.

Police remained at the Judson Mill Lofts until nearly 8 p.m., according to the neighbor.

The arrival of the coroner’s vehicle underscored the severity of the situation. ‘When the coroner vehicle showed up, I realized then that a death had occurred,’ the resident stated.

Hayden attended the Environmental Media Awards in California in 2013. A Greenville neighbor later said it was "still shocking" to learn she had died at the apartment complex.

By the next morning, the neighbor found out Hayden was the one who had died at the complex. ‘I woke up to hear it was Hayden, which is just still shocking,’ the resident added.

Earlier reports also captured the first public acknowledgments of her death and included reflections she shared in the months leading up to it.

Hayden attended an Emmy nominees event in West Hollywood in September 2022. In later interviews, she spoke openly about the personal struggles she faced away from the spotlight.

Hayden’s representative later confirmed her death to ABC News. At that time, the outlet noted that more details about the circumstances were not readily available.

In the meantime, Hayden’s father, Skip Panettiere, released his first public statement following her death.

Skip also requested privacy for the family as they cope with this unimaginable loss.

Throughout 2026, Hayden had been quite open about her life. In a May 15 interview with NPR’s Sacha Pfeiffer, she discussed her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.”

Born on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, Hayden traced her career beginnings back to her infancy, revealing that she started baby modeling at just 8 months and filmed her first commercial at 11 months.

The discussion in the interview focused less on her professional achievements and more on the costs associated with her childhood career. Hayden expressed that she frequently felt torn between adult responsibilities and a childhood she yearned to experience.

She remarked, ‘I desperately wanted to fit in. That was my greatest wish,’ recalling her desire for friendships, school, and sports like her peers.

Hayden was already working as a child actor when she attended the Los Angeles premiere of "A Bug's Life," in which she voiced Dot. She later said growing up in the industry left her trying to find a place in both the adult world of acting and among children her own age.

Hayden also touched on the emotional toll that acting took on her. As a young actress known for crying on cue, she noted that the mental places she had to access became increasingly darker as she aged.

By the time she reached adulthood, transitioning in and out of intense characters became challenging for her. Her role in “Nashville” proved particularly complex.

Hayden shared that storylines involving difficult family dynamics, postpartum depression, alcoholism, and drug addiction increasingly reflected her own personal struggles. ‘I began to lose track of where the character ended and I began,’ she expressed.

In her last months, she openly shared her thoughts on motherhood and healing.

On May 26, she attended a book signing and panel event at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles, as reported by People.

During this event, she mentioned how numerous individuals approached her after she spoke about mental health, sharing that her openness inspired them to seek assistance.

For Hayden, these interactions influenced how she viewed the legacy she wished to leave behind. ‘I thought, This is worth it. I hope to leave the world better than I found it,’ she stated.

In a July interview with the parenting outlet Momé, she candidly discussed the challenges of motherhood and the tough choices she made for her daughter, Kaya.

She recounted Kaya’s life-threatening birth, her struggles with postpartum depression, and the decision for her daughter to predominantly live with her father, former boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

“I’ve prioritized her needs above all, regardless of how I’ve coped with my own experiences,” Hayden shared. She expressed hope that “one day she’ll come to understand my story and why I couldn’t always be present for her.”

Hayden reflected on her current state of life during that interview, saying, “I’m a work in progress — we all are. I take each day as it comes. I’m working on myself and doing my best.”

She concluded the interview with encouragement for other mothers facing challenges: “You possess more strength than you realize. And everything will be okay.”

In the weeks prior to her passing, Hayden made a poignant post on Instagram that would become her last public message.

On July 27, she posted a black-and-white image of herself smiling alongside photographer and director Randall Slavin. She tagged him and included a sparkle emoji, captioning it, “Good times and good friends.”

After the news broke about her death, actress Selma Blair left multiple heartfelt comments on the post. ‘I love you. Don’t disappear. Please stay,’ Selma wrote.

In another comment, she affectionately referred to Hayden as ‘whale tail my friend.’ She later added, ‘I’m devastated. Please remain here.’

Randall also returned to the image from July 27, sharing it again on his Instagram Story with a message, ‘Peace be with you, H.’

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) also honored Hayden in an Instagram post, recognizing her long-standing membership since 1994.
