Amanda Bynes
After leaving the spotlight, Amanda Bynes took a surprising route, exploring interests that shifted her career focus.
In June 2019, the actress known for ‘She’s the Man’ graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, sharing her achievement on X with a photo in her graduation attire and the straightforward caption, ‘FIDM graduate 2019.’ She continued her education post-graduation.
By April 2022, Bynes informed E! News that she was pursuing a bachelor’s degree at FIDM, focusing on Creative Industry Studies, particularly in Beauty Marketing and Product Development. She also expressed plans to visit New York that June to work on launching a fragrance for the holiday season.

By October 2022, the former Nickelodeon star was furthering her education in the beauty industry. Access Hollywood reported that her Instagram bio mentioned she was ‘in cosmetology college to become a manicurist.’ She also posted a video from her training space, showcasing her skills with three nails featuring black and glittery silver polish.
Danica McKellar

Omri Katz stepped back from acting shortly after his role in ‘Hocus Pocus,’ embarking on a post-Hollywood journey filled with unexpected experiences.
Katz, famous for portraying Max Dennison in the 1993 Disney classic alongside Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, soon distanced himself from the entertainment scene.
In a 2024 interview with Bootleg Betty, Katz reflected on his early start in the industry and the relentless pace it demanded, which ultimately led him to seek a break. ‘I left the industry not long after ‘Hocus Pocus’ and never really looked back,’ he shared.
He spent five years following the Grateful Dead and then settled in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he snowboarding during the winters and surfed in the summers. After running low on funds, Katz returned to Los Angeles, attempting to re-enter acting for what he later described as ‘the wrong reasons.’
However, this attempt at a comeback did not last. Katz discovered that his time away had caused him to feel stage fright, leading him to realize that acting no longer suited him. He shifted to waiting tables before eventually working as a hairdresser for eight years.
Eventually, Katz found a long-term passion in cannabis. He revealed to Bloody Disgusting in 2022 that he had been involved in the industry since 2002, initially keeping his activities private. ‘I had to be discreet and stay under the radar, but I’ve been doing it ever since,’ he noted.
Katz later launched his own cannabis brand, The Mary Danksters, which he confirmed was operating legally and identified as ‘exotic craft cannabis cultivators.’
Danny Pintauro
Danny Pintauro’s journey post-‘Who’s the Boss?’ has taken him far beyond the realm of television, leading him through various jobs, including college, restaurant work, and animal care, before an unexpected role brought him back into the public eye.
Pintauro shared with Fox News Digital in May 2026 that his time on the popular sitcom from 1984 to 1992 did not set him up financially for life. He explained that residuals from contracts during that era are often much lower than many might assume, citing that for some early episodes, he currently receives only ‘five to six cents per episode.’
Much of his earnings from the show were allocated towards securing a different future.
Pintauro utilized his earnings to help fund his education at Stanford and to support himself after the show’s conclusion. He also ventured into jobs outside of entertainment, starting at the Gap.
His career continued to evolve as he worked in various roles, including waiting tables and managing at P.F. Chang’s, before aspiring to be a theater director in New York. After relocating to Austin, he spent time at an animal shelter, caring for cats and training to become a veterinary technician.
Eventually, the lure of acting drew him back. Pintauro relocated to Los Angeles with his husband in 2022 to pursue opportunities in the industry again, but it did not guarantee financial stability.
This is where Amazon Flex entered his life. Pintauro started using his personal vehicle for package deliveries, and in April 2026, a selfie he shared while working as a delivery driver went viral, revealing a perspective of former child stardom that many may not associate with a successful sitcom.
‘As a working actor, I’m not currently acting,’ Pintauro remarked. This experience has also fostered a deeper respect for those who do whatever it takes to support themselves and their families.
His husband, Wil Tabares, has been a significant part of Pintauro’s post-Hollywood journey. In an April Instagram post commemorating their 12th wedding anniversary, Pintauro expressed gratitude for their life together, appreciating the love, memories, and laughter they have shared.

‘You know, he started as a childhood hero and is now a real-life hero as a firefighter. From what I’ve heard, he’s a very private individual now,’ Renna stated.
However, Vitar’s career faced challenges following a confrontation on Halloween in 2015, leading to legal repercussions. The Los Angeles Times reported that he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery, resulting in three years of probation and 90 days of community service, alongside a six-month suspension from his job.
Despite this setback, Vitar continued his career with the fire department. An LAFD spokesperson confirmed that both Vitar and his colleague returned to their duties after the suspension.
Jamie Walters
In the 1990s, Jamie Walters gained fame as an actor and musician, but the pressures of Hollywood ultimately led him to pursue a career he had long considered.
Walters is recognized for his role as aspiring musician Ray Pruit in ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ a character that appeared in 40 episodes until 1996. This role followed his earlier performances in the film ‘Shout’ and the TV series ‘The Heights,’ from which he released the hit song ‘How Do You Talk to an Angel.’

The application process extended over three years and involved medical evaluations, background checks, psychological assessments, and physical fitness tests, culminating in his acceptance into the training academy in 2003.
More than twenty years later, Walters continues to serve as a firefighter-paramedic with the Los Angeles Fire Department. This career shift often surprises individuals who remember his television persona.
‘Time has passed, and people aren’t expecting that the fire department’s arrival could include someone from a 90s TV show,’ he remarked.
Interestingly, his two careers have occasionally overlapped. Walters recalled an incident where he responded to a traffic accident and encountered his former ‘90210’ co-star Luke Perry, who recognized him in his firefighter uniform, leading to a brief reunion.
In addition to his professional life, Walters has created a family outside of his teen-idol years, identifying as a single father of four. In retrospect, he expressed gratitude for his decision to leave show business, finding fulfillment in work that he and his children can take pride in.
‘I’m grateful I could pivot to a career that I am proud of and that my kids find interesting and cool,’ he stated.
Despite dedicating over two decades to firefighting, Walters hasn’t entirely closed the door on entertainment. He continues to engage in music and is open to returning to acting after his time as a firefighter concludes.
Michael Schoeffling
Michael Schoeffling became a heartthrob in the 1980s through his role as Jake Ryan in ‘Sixteen Candles,’ but he opted for a dramatically different lifestyle after his acting days came to a close.
The 1984 classic featured Schoeffling alongside notable actors such as Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall, depicting the struggles of a teenage girl on her 16th birthday as it is complicated by her sister’s wedding and romantic woes.
By 1990, Schoeffling had already transitioned into a new profession.
He embraced woodworking and established a successful furniture-making business from his residence near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. This craft allowed him a degree of creative freedom he felt was lacking in acting.
‘Actors often find themselves out of work for extended periods, so I actually spend more time creating furniture,’ Schoeffling commented. ‘The beauty of furniture creation is that it’s solely my endeavor.’
At that time, he was living with his wife and two young children, seeming perfectly content with the idea of fewer acting opportunities. His philosophy was straightforward: ‘How much money do you really need? How many roles do you truly want?’
This perspective ultimately led Schoeffling to withdraw from acting and largely retreat from the public eye.
As reported by People, he has been living in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. His wife, Valerie Robinson, offered a rare glimpse into his life in an earlier interview, describing him as ‘a very different kind of person’ and noting his tendency to be ‘very reclusive and private.’
