Paul Walker’s heartbreaking autopsy and final words before car crash death
|A month after Paul Walker tragically died in a car crash, the Los Angeles coroner released disturbing details about the actor’s death.
Walker, who was in the midst of filming the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise at the time of his death, is believed to have survived the initial crash but died shortly afterward due to the impact and resulting fire.
The 15-page autopsy report revealed that Walker and his business partner, Roger Rodas, were traveling at speeds of over 100mph in a 45mph zone when Rodas lost control of the car. They were test driving a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
The collision was so powerful that it nearly split the vehicle in half. According to the report, “After the driver’s side of the vehicle hit a light pole and a tree, the car continued spinning until Walker’s passenger side slammed into another tree and burst into flames.”
The coroner attributed the cause of death to the “combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries.”
Security camera footage near the scene showed that the Porsche caught fire about a minute after the crash. Walker’s body was so severely burned that visual identification was not possible.
The actor sustained injuries throughout his body, including fractures to his jaw, collarbone, and left arm. No drugs or alcohol were found in the bodies of either Paul or his friend who was driving.
Tragically, a small amount of soot was discovered in Walker’s trachea, suggesting that he may have taken a breath after the crash.
The accident occurred on a wide street in a business park in Santa Clarita, California, approximately 30 miles north of Hollywood. Just before the crash, Walker had attended a toy donation event for his charity and decided to go for a ride in the Porsche with his friend Rodas.
The car had been on display at the fundraising event, which took place at a car shop owned by Rodas. Guests reported hearing the crash from 500 yards away from the shop.
One of Walker’s friends, Jim Thorp, revealed his heartbreaking final words at the charity event. He told reporters that he had spoken to Walker just before he got into the Porsche with Rodas. Walker’s last words at the event were, “Hey, let’s go for a drive.”
Walker was known for his love of supercars and his role in the immensely popular Fast & Furious movie franchise. He was in the middle of filming the seventh installment of the series at the time of the accident.
Universal Pictures immediately halted production and pledged to donate the profits from Fast & Furious 6 to Walker’s charity.
Walker’s youngest brother, Cody Beau Walker, stepped in to complete the final scenes of Fast & Furious 7, portraying the character Brian O’Conner, which Paul had made famous. This allowed the film to continue as closely as possible to the original plan in his absence.
The actor left behind his daughter, Meadow, who was just 15 years old at the time of his tragic death. Last month, Meadow announced her engagement to her actor boyfriend, Louis Thornton-Allan.
