Wake Forest Residents Complain About ‘offensive’ Halloween Decoration
A Halloween display in Wake Forest has sparked debate among residents after several people complained about a controversial decoration outside a home on North Main Street.
The decoration showed what appeared to be a mummy wrapped inside a bag, chained and hanging upside down by its feet. The unusual setup quickly caught attention in the neighborhood, with some residents saying the display went too far for a typical Halloween decoration.
According to reports, one person described the scene as “offensive,” while another felt that it was simply too disturbing and extreme, especially for families and children walking through the area during Halloween season.
The homeowner, however, said the decoration was never intended to upset anyone. He explained that the mummy prop had been part of his Halloween display for the past three years and that, in previous years, people often stopped in front of the house to take pictures and enjoy the decorations.
The situation changed after town officials determined that the decoration had actually been attached to a tree that belonged to the town rather than being fully placed on the homeowner’s private property.
Because of that, town workers removed the mummy display from the tree and placed it on the homeowner’s front porch.
The homeowner said he was disappointed by the decision and explained that he has been taking part in Halloween celebrations in Wake Forest’s historic district since 2013. He said he enjoys decorating for the community every year and never expected this particular display to create such a strong reaction.
He also expressed regret that anyone felt offended by the decoration, saying that his intention was only to create a dramatic Halloween scene and add to the festive atmosphere.
The incident has now created a wider conversation among local residents about where the line should be drawn between creative Halloween decorations, public property rules, and displays that some people may find disturbing or inappropriate.
