Keith Urban says that his life has changed a lot since he married Nicole Kidman and became a dad.
|In a talk on Wednesday, Keith Urban, who is 54 years old, shared about different things, like his struggle with addiction, how he now sees what’s important, and his life with his family.
In the past, especially early in his career, the country star went to rehab a few times. The last time was just a few months after he married Nicole Kidman in 2006. Getting married to Kidman was a big change for him. When asked about going to a party during the interview, he joked, “I’d rather stay married.”
He explained that he used to do a thing where he’d think about the consequences of his actions and then decide if it was worth it. But most of the time, he decided it was worth it, even if it caused problems.
He said, “I used to think, ‘I know this will cause a problem, but it will be a lot of fun.’ Night-time me and daytime me don’t agree. It’s so true. But the next morning, night-time me is nowhere to be found — he’s totally unaccountable.”
But now, Keith Urban is mainly focused on his kids: Sunday, who is 13, and Faith, who is 11.
“Life is very different now. I’m trying to be a good example for the kids, but I still don’t know if I’m doing it right,” said the singer of “The Fighter.”
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but everyone has to figure out what works for them. My message to them is always to do whatever they’re passionate about. I don’t care what it is, as long as they work hard for it,” he continued. “Both Nic and I worked really hard. For me, I had to work my way up through the clubs in Australia to get a record deal. Then, when I moved to the US, I had to start all over again from the bottom.”
He added, “Luckily, things worked out a second time.”
