Maddy Bill, a 27-year-old from Ambler, Pennsylvania, recently took to TikTok to share a special gift from her maternal grandmother, Marie D’Alessandro Donato, who is now 91.

The contents of the gifted bag were nothing short of intriguing. It held every dress Marie wore during her honeymoon in New York back in 1952. Remarkably, according to the video, no one had laid eyes on these garments in seventy years!

To ensure her children and grandchildren could enjoy it, Marie, Maddy’s grandmother, who had embarked on her honeymoon with her late husband Anthony James Donato, took great care to wash every piece of clothing from that special trip. It was a success! Even 70 years later, thousands of people online continue to appreciate her thoughtful gesture.

Reflecting on the cherished suitcase, Maddy shared, “I’ve always known about this suitcase ever since I was a little girl. My mom discovered it when she was a little older and she told me about it and she selflessly saved it for me and my sister for when we were of age.” When she finally opened it, Maddy was overwhelmed with a sense of awe. “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen,” she thought. It was like a flood of memories, especially those of her grandfather who passed away 21 years ago.

The Donatos, Marie and Anthony, exchanged vows in 1952 and spent their honeymoon in the bustling streets of New York City that May. They explored Manhattan, making special memories at iconic places like The New Yorker Hotel.

Maddy recounted her grandmother’s sentiment during that time, “She was like, ‘I did not care because I was with my honey’ — that’s what she called my pop pop.” It was evident that Marie cherished every moment, relishing the prospect of building a family and realizing the dreams she had held close to her heart.

Once again, her grandparents’ journey in 1952 was a pivotal chapter in their lives, filled with hope, love, and the promise of a bright future.

After Maddy posted a video showcasing just the suitcase, she received an outpouring of responses, urging her to try on the gowns. And so, she did. She carefully slipped into her grandmother’s dresses and adorned herself with her precious jewelry.

Maddy couldn’t help but admire how remarkably well-preserved the clothing was, considering it had been 70 years since they were last worn. “It’s pretty cool how they’ve been so intact to this day, like it was 70 years ago [and] there’s elastic on some of the pieces and [they’re] still springy,” Madeline exclaimed.

She eagerly modeled the first item for her followers — a piece that had fascinated her since childhood. It was a black dress with short sleeves and a waist-cinching design. Maddy revealed that she’d often noticed a picture of her grandmother wearing this very garment during their stays at the New Yorker hotel, and it never failed to captivate her attention.

Next, she tried on an elegant gray jacket, skirt, and sleeveless top that she claimed her grandma had worn on the train to the bustling city. It was clear that Maddy possessed an excellent sense of fashion.
