While contemplating mortality often evokes fear, for actress Shannen Doherty, facing the reality of her eventual passing has brought a sense of peace.

In 2015, she publicly disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis, followed by the devastating news in the subsequent year that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

Since then, the 52-year-old actress has been open about her health journey, regularly updating listeners on her Let’s Be Clear podcast.

Over the years, Shannen has undergone treatment, including a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, with a brief respite in 2017. However, in 2020, she revealed that her cancer had returned, this time at Stage 4, spreading to her brain and bones.

Despite the prognosis, she remains hopeful about spending time with loved ones. In January of this year, she shared news of a successful treatment that targeted her brain cancer.

However, in a recent podcast episode, Shannen discussed a decision she made to ease the burden on her family, especially her mother, Rosa, when she eventually passes away.

“I’m a fighter, and I believe in science,” Shannen said. “My priority now is my mom — I know it’ll be hard on her if I pass away before her.”

While acknowledging the emotional weight of her decision, Shannen admitted: “It feels like giving up on something special. But it’s the right thing to do for peace of mind.”

She plans to sell possessions to fund travels with her mother, prioritizing experiences over material possessions. “It’s just stuff. What brings me joy is taking my mom to places she’s always wanted to go,” she shared.

Through this process, Shannen finds solace in creating lasting memories with loved ones, particularly her mother.
