Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, took a lot of money from the singer, and now he has been told to give it all back.

Kelly Clarkson has been open about her tough time after her divorce. One big issue was the money trouble she faced when her marriage ended. Now, it seems she might be getting some relief.

Kelly and Brandon Blackstock got married in 2013 and divorced in 2021. Recently, the singer settled a case she had been fighting with her ex-husband.

When they were married, Brandon also worked as Kelly’s manager and charged her a commission. It turns out he took a lot of money from her. A California labor commissioner decided that Brandon had charged her too much in commission. On Thursday, it was decided that he has to give back around $2,641,374 to the Grammy winner.

Blackstock is getting ready to challenge the decision made by the court.

Legal papers say that Blackstock did something wrong when he arranged jobs and made deals for his ex-wife. This includes deals for “The Voice,” Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards.

The labor commissioner said that only talent agents, not managers, should arrange jobs for their clients. Sometimes there are exceptions, but in this situation, it wasn’t allowed.

Now, Blackstock has to pay Kelly Clarkson $1,983,155.70 for her time on “The Voice,” $208,125 for working with Norwegian Cruise Lines, $450,000 for her deal with Wayfair, and $93.30 for hosting the Billboard Music Awards three times.

Kelly also wanted money from when she started “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” but the court said Blackstock can keep that.

The couple was married for almost seven years before Kelly filed for divorce in the summer of 2020. After that, there was a tough fight for custody of their two kids, 9-year-old River Rose and 7-year-old Remington “Remy” Alexander. They were also arguing about their shared Montana ranch. The divorce was finally settled in court in March 2022.

Kelly Clarkson was given the main responsibility for taking care of both of her kids and got to keep the ranch they shared.

After the separation, Kelly went to live in New York City, where she found some comfort and got back on track. She said, “I think COVID showed us a lot of things. Many of us had difficulties in our relationships.”

She released an album called Chemistry, which was mostly inspired by her own life. She told her fans that she’s content being single for a while and isn’t planning to start dating anytime soon.

“Do I have a boyfriend? No! And not looking. You know why? I love being single,” she said to her Instagram followers in September.

“I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs — there’s a lot going on,” she quipped, further adding that it’s “hard to start over” when “you think you’re going to spend the rest of your life with somebody, and you don’t.”
